Bastille Day is a thriller set in Paris in the run up to the national day on July 14th. When brilliant pickpocket Michael Mason (Richard Madden) steals a bag from a woman, he doesn’t find anything of interest in it apart from a mobile phone, which he pockets. However, a few moments after he dumps the bag next to a bin, a bomb hidden inside explodes and he is suddenly a wanted man. A CIA agent called Sean Briar (Idris Elba) tracks him down and they team up to catch the real culprits.
It is an exciting film to watch with some excellent action sequences, particularly the chase on the rooftops. There is great chemistry between Madden and Elba, and some funny moments in between all the action. It was also great to hear a lot of French being spoken in the film, rather than as is so often the case having French characters speaking to each other in English for no apparent reason.
A thoroughly enjoyable film, definitely worth a watch.
