This first novel in the Poldark series is the story of Ross Poldark’s return to Cornwall after fighting in the United States with the British Army. When he arrives he finds his father dead, and his cousin Francis engaged to his childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth. Ross has to adapt to the changed surroundings and along the way he meets a young girl called Demelza.
This was a very easy and relaxing read, and it is well written by Winston Graham. I am not in a huge hurry to continue with the series, but maybe that’s partly because I have an idea of what happens from watching the television series! However, I’m sure I will read the next novel at some point.
